T-Shirts for Printing, How to Choose the Right One

Choosing the Right T-Shirt for Printing

As many people know custom t-shirts are one of the most effective forms of advertising. If you are interested in getting shirts printed for your company choosing the right t-shirt is one of the most important steps. Hopefully through this article I will be able to help some you make an educated decision when it comes to getting shirts printed.

Choosing the wrong weight of shirt is a very common mistake.

The first mistake is selecting a shirt that is too heavy. If you are having shirts made for a lawn care company you would not want to use a heavy t-shirt like the Hanes Beefy T 6.1 Oz. They would not breath as well as a lighter shirt and would be uncomfortable during the summer heat. Not to mention these garments would be more expensive than something lighter. If you were printing shirts to sell this would be a good choice. They are very high quality and that would show while on display.

The second weight related mistake is choosing a product that is to light. There is a brand name "AAA" that is made in China. These shirts can be bought for about $.40 a piece. But the old adage applies: "You get what you pay for." If you are looking to print shirts to give away these shirts will be okay, but will not last longer than a few washes. If you are going to sell the shirts, I would strongly advise not using this brand. Other manufacturers make cheap t-shirts as well. For the sake of longevity you should not use anything with a weight less than 4 ounces.

Now on to color.

The color of shirt that you choose will effect the cost of printing. Light colors like ash, white or yellow should not effect the price. However dark colors like black, navy, forest et. al. will increase the cost of printing. They are also more expensive than the lighter colors. These colors — especially black — are worth the extra cost. They will be your best sellers — people love black t-shirts. The printing on these shirts needs an undercoat. If this is not done the color of the shirt will peek through the printed ink. When estimating what you will pay for printing you must add the cost of one color to the cost of printing. Once in a while you will encounter a company that does not require the undercoat. This will save you money. But trust me I can tell you from experience, it is not worth it.

The T-Shirt - A Fashion Item In Constant Revolution

As fashion launches itself headfirst into 2007, emerging musical trends - most notably indie rock and new rave - seem to have influenced the t-shirt design industry in a variety of ways. Tops and T-shirts for men found on the fashion highway are so bright, colourful and splashed across with patterns that it’s hard to believe that, at one time, the t-shirt was only available in one colour - white.

The t-shirt has a long history that dates back to the nineteenth century. Primarily developed as a type of underwear, the t-shirt was popularised in European society around the turn of the century. The t-shirt then spread into the United States during World War One, when American soldiers caught sight of the soft undershirts - then made of Egyptian cotton - while the US military sweated in wool uniforms.

By World War Two, the t-shirt had become standard issue in both the US army and the Navy; and although the t-shirt was still formally issued as underwear, soldiers stationed in hot climates would often wear it without any clothes on top - hence giving birth to the modern notion of the t-shirt. As the public were exposed to photographs of men wearing their t-shirts, the fashion soon spread into American life.

Urban Clothing

In recent years, and thanks to people like Jennifer Lopez and P. Diddy who now design clothes, urban fashion has become some of the most popular types of clothing in the market. In addition to icon status of the people who design urban clothing, another factor that make urban clothing very popular is the popularity of the hip-hop culture that brought about a fashion trend that reflects the attitude of the rap culture. Given these, it can be expected that as the hip-hop culture continues to thrive, the clothing that comes with it will remain very popular.

Hip-hop can trace its origins back the late 70?s, when people like DJ Cool They are the pioneers in the hip-hop genre. In addition, people like Run DMC, who wore some of the most unique accessories such as tracksuits and huge clock necklaces, were the people who started the ‘phat’ look that defined hip-hop clothing. However, in recent times, the word ‘phat’ has come to mean a number of things, especially in hip-hop clothing. This is because there are now quite a number of fashion items that define the ‘phat’ look. Some of these are the baseball hats, bandanas, and skullcaps that every hip-hop enthusiast has nowadays.

Top off your wardrobe with a simple yet stylish T

The ultimate basic, the T-shirt, has evolved into a fashion statement of its own, thanks to girl-next-door celebrity style icons such as Jennifer Aniston and Cameron Diaz. Not only are fashion-forward women wearing their tees with jeans, they’re pairing them with party skirts, diamonds and other couture pieces, using the classic layer as a canvas to either tone down or display a statement. From an array of solid styles to the collectible screen prints coveted by trendsetters, hot T-shirt brands are fighting for "the perfect tee" bragging rights at a store near you.

Bobbie Thomas, Today Style editor and author of the Buzz column for In Touch weekly, highlights five fashionable T-shirt styles and 15 of the most covetable collections.

Take the plunge
While a fitted crewneck was once the must-have for T-shirt-touting teens and fashion-forward adults, the V-neck has stepped up in recent years to replace this shape as the single most sought-after style. With a slightly loose silhouette that oozes a casual-chic ease and feminine appeal, brands such as Daftbird (revolveclothing.com), Splendid (splendid.com) and James Perse (jamesperse.com) have mastered modern versions of this neckline, making the "Vee" the new must-have tee. Even Hollywood’s leading men, from Brad Pitt to Orlando Bloom, are baring a little chest and some sexy collarbones!

Man Summer Clothes

We often hear people cribbing about the unbearable summers. When you are at home or in your office premises, you can cool your body through air conditioning. But the major problem crops up when you are traveling or walking on the road or shopping at open markets. You can’t change the season magically but you can definitely do something to beat the summer heat. There is an exotic variety of stylish man summer clothes that are moisture absorbent and provide you a relaxed cool feeling.

Some tips on choosing the right man clothing for summers are: -

  • Man summer wear collection is vast and gives you multiple options to choose from. You need to pick up something that goes well with your individual decorum. And mind you guys don’t get lured by the designer labels because they might not be the apt clothing for you. So always keep in mind that "all that glitters is not gold".
  • Shades and prints have psychological effects. On hot summer day, a person in black big print top would lend a feeling of hot summer winds but if you see a man dressed in white plain shirt, you will feel cooler. It gives a feeling that though the mercury is shooting but still the temperature is bearable. So next time look out for some sober light colors and small prints. Complicated motifs should be avoided. Gaudy clothes are a total no.

Branded-wear makers head for the hinterland

Every month Dayanand Shirke saves around Rs 1,000 from his part-time earnings of Rs 2,500. The 19-year-old commerce student from Sangli, about 430 km southeast of Mumbai, uses his savings to splurge on branded clothing.

The desire to own premium brands caught him a year ago when one of his collegemates started sporting branded wear. As Shirke’s father couldn’t afford to pay for his indulgence, he decided to earn some extra bucks himself to splurge on premium brands.

Premium clothing makes one "feel good about oneself" is how he justifies his new fad. "Wearing branded clothes gives you a certain degree of confidence and makes you feel a part of the globalised economy."

Like Shirke, other youngsters in semi-urban areas of India, (with population of anywhere between 3-10 lakh), also feel more connected with their counterparts in metros if they don premium clothing. And, racing fast to benefit from this very trend are players in the branded premium category segment.

According to Chetan Shah, managing director, Pepe Jeans London (India), close to 15 stores, varying from 1,200-3,000 sq ft will be started in markets such as Guntur, Nashik, Rajkot, etc by the end of 2008.
