Eco-couture

Fashionistas with a conscience need look no further. Cancer Research UK has joined forces with eco-couture designers reVamp to launch an exclusive collection of trend-conscious garments and accessories recycled from stock donated to Cancer Research UK shops.

reVamp’s collection which goes on sale in May 2008, showcases the best in established and emerging design talent from across the UK. From bang-on-trend floral print dresses to full skirts, ruffles and accessories inspired by the medieval world and haute couture, each item has been carefully handcrafted using existing materials to create truly unique statement pieces.

reVamp’s founder Jen Ruppert said: “We are really keen to highlight the benefits of reclaimed and vintage fashion through our new partnership with Cancer Research UK. We aim to help lessen some of the environmental impact created by the fashion industry by sourcing existing materials to create our designs.”

Fernando Viani, designer said: “Through this initiative, not only are we helping up-and-coming designers to get a presence on the high street but we are restoring life and beauty into old stock whilst also raising money for Cancer Research UK. This is creating fashion with a conscience.”

Exclusive Pro Sports not just for sports fans anymore

ROCKFORD —

Exclusive Pro Sports’ handiwork was on the ice when the Carolina Hurricanes won the NHL’s Stanley Cup in 2006.

It graces autographed jerseys from Ryne Sandberg, Ernie Banks and Dick Butkus.

It’s worn by the Rockford IceHogs, the Rockford Icemen and several local youth baseball teams.

For more than 17 years, the Rockford company has put customized lettering, numbers and graphics on retail and game-used sports jerseys around the country.

But soon, even people who aren’t sports fans will be able to use the company’s services. Exclusive Pro Sports is working on deals to customize T-shirts ordered over the Internet by a wider audience. It’ll work for general apparel merchandizers, putting photographs and other unique designs on shirts.

The deals could give the company its biggest boost yet: anywhere from 200,000 to 400,000 orders per year.

“We have the equipment, we have the skills, we have the knowledge. It’s time to use it to expand our business,” owner Terry Taylor said.

Exclusive Pro Sports, 5035 28th Ave., started in 1990 as a retail and mail-order outlet that customized jerseys itself. The customization part quickly became the primary part of the business, and the storefront closed. The company eventually started customizing official merchandise for pro teams.
